| In the early hours of May 31, West Shore Bureau of Fire units were dispatched to the 200 block of 2nd Street after a large tree fell onto a residence, bringing down live power lines and damaging multiple utility poles. Firefighters from Company 13 arrived to find significant structural damage to the home. Despite limited access due to the storm's widespread impact, crews remained on scene throughout the night to ensure the safety of the occupants and surrounding area. “Safety is always our top priority,” said a department spokesperson. “We understand the frustration of delays during high-call-volume events, but our firefighters worked through the night to make sure residents were protected.” Power outages and road closures continue to affect the area. 2nd Street in Wormleysburg will remain closed for most of the day as utility crews work to restore service and clear debris. No injuries were reported at the scene. In addition to this incident, West Shore crews responded to several other storm-related emergencies throughout the borough, including downed trees, electrical hazards, and minor flooding. The West Shore Bureau of Fire urges residents to use caution during storm recovery efforts. Avoid downed wires and report hazards to authorities immediately. Fire Prevention Tip: Always assume downed power lines are live—stay at least 30 feet away and call 911. For updates and safety information, follow the West Shore Bureau of Fire on Facebook. |
