What is a KnoxBox™
The KnoxBox™ is a secure, wall - mounted lockbox designed to store keys, access cards, or elevator override keys. In emergencies, the Bureau’s master key grants rapid access - without forced entry - to protect lives and property.

Applicable Code Requirements
According to the 2018 International Fire Code (IFC), NFPA1, and Pennsylvania Fire Code:

The Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) - here Lemoyne and Wormleysburg Boroughs by ordinance - can mandate key boxes for new or existing buildings with restricted access, elevators, or automatic life - safety systems.

Under UL1037 standards, Knox products are certified for secure emergency access.
Who Needs a KnoxBox™
Buildings that fall under these criteria should install a KnoxBox™:

Structures with automatic fire suppression or alarm systems

Buildings featuring elevators or rising - floor levels

Facilities with restricted entry, such as gated communities or high - security campuses

Multi - family dwellings, commercial spaces, medical offices, and public venues
Installation of a KnoxBox™ must be completed prior to issuance of the Certificate of Occupancy for new construction or upon notification for existing facilities.

Install at the primary public entrance, between 4 and 7 feet above grade, per NFPA/IFC guidelines.

The Bureau retains a master key in a secure, tamper - logged device such as a Knox KeySecure unit.

Contact our Fire Prevention Bureau for guidance based on your building type, occupancy, or existing systems. The West Shore Bureau of Fire will provide you with the proper application and guidance on ordering your Knox Box and help you through the process.

Install Per Code
Mount at the primary entrance (4–7 feet in height) and connect a tamper alarm if available.

Schedule Inspection
Notify the Bureau for a final sign - off inspection.

Report any key changes or box tampering to ensure continued program integrity.
